We’re so excited that you’re going to be part of Creative Neighbors!
STEP ONE: GETTING STARTED
We need three things when you initially agree to speak:
1) Confirm the Date
We’ll work with you to pick a month and date that works.
2) Send Your Info
Fill out this form so we know how to reach you, tag you, promote you.
3) Send a Headshot
Please sent a photo of yourself that we can use to promote your talk.
4) Pick Your Segment
All CN talks fit into one of four segments. Segments are first-come, first-served – but with a spare, you’ll always have a choice 🙂
PROJECT – Something you finished or are working on.
PROCESS – How do you what you do?
LESSON – Something you’ve learned.
CREATIVE CRUSH – Someone/thing you’re really into and want to share.
STEP TWO: CREATING YOUR TALK
Write Your Blurb
Once you’re scheduled and have a segment, we’ll need to write a blurb to start promoting your talk. Here’s the general formula for each segment:
PROJECT
[Your title/descriptor] [your name] shares/presents ____________.
PROCESS
[Your title/descriptor] [your name] gives insight into how____________.
LESSON
[Your title/descriptor] [your name] shares what they’ve learned about ____________.
CREATIVE CRUSH
[Your title/descriptor] [your name] is really into ____________.
Here’s an example:
Writer and Director Héloïse Chung shares how being bad at ceramics made her better at writing.
You can see lots more examples from past talks here.
STEP THREE: SPREAD THE WORD
Get Your Tickets
If you haven’t RSVP’d yet, please do so here:
https://cn11322.eventbrite.com
Yes, even you (it helps us show off our attendee count). Woohoo, analytics!
Get Social
More importantly, please invite a friend or three! You can
- Send folks the Eventbrite ticket link: https://cn11322.eventbrite.com
- Share on Twitter, Instagram, and/or Facebook
If you could also LIKE our FB page, we will be able to tag you in our event posts. Thanks!
STEP FOUR: YOUR PRESENTATION
Talks are strongest when they are 5-8 minutes.
If you want to use visual aids (some speakers do, some don’t!), please create them in Keynote, Google Slides, or Powerpoint on your own computer.
When your time to present arrives, we will ask to share your screen so you can display and control your slides directly.
While we’re virtual, you will also have the option to show viewers around your studio or provide a real-time demonstration.
Whatever you decide, have fun!
STEP FIVE: THE EVENT!
We’ll do a day-of checkin around 7:30pm. We’ll make sure your camera/sound work, take your photo, review any slides.
Then we’ll reconnect at 8pm for the event.
We’ll chat a little at the beginning as folks roll in, then have our talks and end with a short, informal chat.
In total, we expect the event to last roughly an hour and a half — ending around 9:30pm.
Thank you again for speaking! We’re super excited to be building this community and we’re so glad that you’re part of it
